MRI results

I finally got my MRI results back and at least know what's wrong with my knee. Good news is that nothing is ruptured (completely torn) and I don't need surgery. Bad news is that surgery might be faster to recover from than the actual problem.

The findings: Grade II MCL sprain (partially torn) with deep bone bruises on both the femur and tibia.

Most people are somewhat familiar with the MCL. It's the ligament on the inside of you knee. What's a bone bruise you ask?

Bone bruises are also known as periosteal. The most painful bruises, they can sometimes take months up to a year to heal. What happens in a bone bruise is a compressive force pushes the bone in on itself. When this happens the outer layer of the bone, the Periostium which is fibrous, breaks down. This leads to leaking of fluid and collection of blood in the area. Symptoms include pain and inability to walk.

My goal is to be able to hike and play this summer. Wish me luck!
